2 Samuel 22, 23 and Psalm 57
2 Samuel 22 is David’s long song of Praise. A song of David recounting God’s Hand in his
life and his times and it is such an amazing testimony. The highs and lows,
when we are in the midst of them, seem insurmountable and all consuming. And this is a look back, over his
shoulder. It seems, with time and hind
sight, that the peaks and valleys level out. Is life like that too? This is a life marked by gratitude and also
with some regrets. Maybe the depths, in recollection, don’t seem quite so deep
and so dark, because you know you came out the other side. But the joys, and the heights, are still
causes for joy and celebration. All these sacred places on our life map marked
by lessons and learning and growth. That
we are not the same.
And 2 Samuel 23 are the last words David speaks. This long saga wrapping up. NIV – David’s last poetic testimony;
“Israel’s Singer of Songs”. And we get a
last recap of David’s Mighty Men, where the sum of 30 men adds up to 37. Because that is Bible math sometimes.
And Psalm 57, which should be sung to the tune of “Do Not
Destroy” which sounds ominous.
Ps 57:2 “…in You my soul takes refuge.
I cry out to God Most High,
To God who fulfills His Purpose for me.
7 My heart is steadfast, O God,
My heart is steadfast;
I will sing and make music.
8 Awake my soul!
Awake harp and lyre
I will awaken the dawn.
10 For great is your love,
Reaching to the heavens,
Your faithfulness to the skies
11 Let your glory be over all the earth.”
In all our stories, glory moments.
The high points visible above the cloud cover when we
stand on the mountain.
And today, another day that God has given us.
Another day, another week, another month, and another
Spring.
I love that today.
And I wonder what we will see when we reflect on this
season, when we look over our shoulder and reflect.
