Tunneling

Job 28

In all this contemplating of circumstance

And search for understanding

There is chapter 28.

The writer of Job writes about the search for wisdom and likens it to mining for precious metals, ores, and stones.

A mine where gold is refined.

Mining deep

And in the dark

Where no human feet have trod.

Wisdom is precious and priceless.

Its price is beyond rubies.

Like the Proverbs 31 woman.

But tunneling and mining.

Do we look that hard for wisdom?

Or do we just glean it from what’s nearby.

Or do we absorb it from what’s easy.

Even from social media.

There is so much untruth out there!

And can be really loud

And catchy. 

In the end:

“The fear of the LORD

-That is wisdom

& to shun evil

Is understanding.” Job 28:28

If evil and untruth were easy to discern we could all avoid it. 

I feel like it takes a lot of effort to make space for finding this kind of wisdom. 

To study God’s Word

And soak in it.

A kind of mining

To search out the actual truths

that have the power to shape our thoughts and our actions.

If we fill our hearts and souls and minds

With God’s Truth and Word

It is going shed light on our path.  

It will help identify things that aren’t what they appear to be.

It has the power to quench our thirsts,

And satisfy our hungers

And soothe our aches

And fill our emptinesses. 

Taking the time to read God’s Word is always going to be worth it. 

God’s Word never returns to Him empty.

Isaiah 55:10 & 11

“As the rain and the snow
come down from heaven,
and do not return to it
 without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,

so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
 It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
 and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”
