When God Answers

Job 37 to 40, Psalm 19 & 29

God, awesome in His Majesty, appears to Job. 

He comes in the storm. 

Not in a whisper, like He appeared to Moses.

The sound of His thunder is like a roar.

This terrible beauty that streams from God.

In all the conversations about knowledge and understanding

Righteousness and innocence

God plies the listeners with questions about how the world was made

And about the birds and the bees

About the behemoth and the leviathan

And I’m pretty sure there be dragons…(ch 39!)

And about the universe.

Do you love how God talks about walking among the stars?

Which He knows by name?

I really love that!

Psalm 19 talks about these same elements

And pieces of Creation

Created just to sing

And make glory sounds.

Rain created just for pouring.

Snow created just for falling.

God asks Job about Creation

And in doing so He reveals all the places that bear His fingerprints

And His signature

And His presence

All the while Job and his friends

Feel they have been crying out to an empty sky

A deaf ear.  

As just like that 42 chapters come to an end.

The NIV notes point out that the friends spoke ABOUT God, and Job spoke TO God.

“Their spiritual arrogance caused them to claim knowledge they did not possess. 

They presumed to know why Job was suffering.”  

God points out in 42:7 that He is angry with the three friends who “have not spoken of [God] what is right” …and invites Job to pray for them and God accepts Job’s prayer of deliverance for them. 

In the end,

Job stands upon the earth.

Just like he said in Ch 19:25

Full of hope.

But not understanding then…..

He still knows that his Redeemer lives.

“I myself will see him.

With my own eyes.

I.

And not another….

Hope that sustained his faith and his trust. 
I hope my walk looks that too.
